Taking care of yourself is necessary for a happy and healthy you. Sometimes (or most of the time) you put everyone else first in your life, whether it is your spouse, kids, or fur babies. But, when you make time for yourself (even small amounts) it can make a large impact on your life and the life of those around you. I wanted to share some of my favorite cheap or free ways to care for yourself.
One of my favorite ways to care for myself is going to the library or bookstore. I can literally get lost in either so I have to be careful about when I go. I love to walk up and down the aisles touching and reading the summaries of the books to find my next great read.
Another way I care for myself goes hand-in-hand with going to the bookstore or library is to make time to actually read. Reading helps me to turn off the world around me and take a deep dive into a mysterious or magical place.
Once a week I try to take 20 minutes to do a face mask. My favorite face mask is benonite clay. Here is an Amazon link to the brand that I use. https://amzn.to/2LmGwo7 . If I am having trouble with dry skin I will add a drop of geranium essential oil or if I am having a problem with acne I will add a drop of tea tree essential oil. All you have to do is let the mask dry on your face for about 20 minutes , wash your face, dry your face, and moisturize and you should be all set to go.
Another relaxing self care technique is journaling. There are tons of Pinterest lists out there that can give you different things to write about each day or you can make your journal more like a diary where you document the things that happened each day and how they made you feel.
Planning or working on my planners are another form of self-care that I enjoy. I feel so much better when I have my life planned out. I don’t need to plan my days down the minute but I am highly motivated by checking things off of a to do list. I also love all of the planning accessories such as pens, markers, stickers, and notepads.
